I.  Its unique curriculum
Children’s Success Academy uses the
overall structure of the global and service oriented curriculum developed by the
International Educational Initiative, Inc.
(IEI). This curriculum
is designed to develop competent, self-directed and responsible social
interaction among students, in a cooperative, respectful atmosphere, and to
provide a global understanding and appreciation of various cultural, social and
scientific ideas to nurture the concept of unity in diversity.  IEI teaches
students problem-solving skills along with the consultative techniques necessary
for successful problem solving.  Within this framework, reading, writing
and mathematics skills are supported by Saxon Phonics (K-3rd grade), Saxon Math
(K-3) and Renaissance Learning's computer-based assessment programs, such as
Accelerated Reader, Star Reader, English in a Flash, Fluent Reader.
Most important, the Virtues –
for example, generosity, caring, cleanliness, diligence, determination, etc. –
are thoroughly integrated into all aspects of classroom experiences.
Learning to recognize and acknowledge the virtues in each other is basic to our
peaceful, positive school environment and to the development of each student.
CSA has a “Virtue of the Week” that is presented every Friday afternoon at the
weekly Virtues Assembly.  Students are acknowledged for use of the virtues
in many ways, including with Virtues Vouchers [Virtues
Project].
II.  Its outstanding teachers and
small class sizes
Class sizes are small, with a
maximum of 20 students per class, with a teacher and a full time assistant in
each classroom.  All teachers are Highly Qualified, as required by the federal
No Child Left Behind (NCLB) laws, as are all teaching assistants (Highly
Qualified Para Professionals).  Children's Success Academy is a PERFORMING
SCHOOL, as designated by the federal No Child Left Behind law and the state of
Arizona.
III.  The successes of each student
Most students who leave CSA after
the Fifth Grade are put in advanced mathematics classes at their next school,
due to the excellent CSA math program.  Students have developed creative ways at
their next school to use the virtues that they learned at CSA.  For example, one
student who started an after school "Virtues Club" with the enthusiastic support
of one of her teachers at her new middle school.
Students who come to CSA below
their grade level in academic skills are usually up to grade level (or beyond)
with one year.  The environment, and the recognition of the virtues that each
and every child possesses, supports these students to become excited about
learning, and as a result, to make great academic strides.
Our program is highly effective
with students with challenging behaviors (such as ADD/ADHD, Oppositional
Defiance, etc.).  Such students are often referred to us from pediatricians and
social services agencies as well as other schools. [Nurtured
Heart Approach].
IV.  The increased health of each
student
The Nurtured Body Program helps
students and their families learn about wholesome nutrition - how and what to
eat for good health.  Students must bring their own lunches and snacks to
school, which must contain foods approved by the Nurtured Body Program.  All
students and all staff MUST bring foods that are made from whole grains (whole
wheat bread, plain corn chips, whole wheat tortillas, corn tortillas), fresh
fruits and vegetables.  Students and staff may NOT bring highly processed foods,
or foods containing processed sugars, sugar substitutes, artificial dyes and
preservatives.  Appreciation for the environment and good health is further
fostered through classes in nutritional biochemistry for students, and also for
parents. [Nurtured Body Approach]
